Pricing and Commission Requirements

Commissions range from $2,500 for a head-only portrait to $12,000, depending on the canvas size, complexity (ie. hands, background images, etc), number of people, travel expenses, etc.

A 1/3 payment is required to secure the portrait, 1/3 payment after approval of a detailed pencil drawing showing the exact expression of the face and a small oil sketch showing the pose and the colors to be used in the final painting, and 1/3 payment upon completion and acceptance of final portrait.

Commission Requirements
The artist paints primarily in oil on Belgian linen. The artist is willing to travel anywhere within the US, Canada, or Europe to meet with a client at least once, as long as the commission is secured and 1/3 payment has been made up front.

The Process
At the initial meeting, the artist will make a few pencil sketches from life and take photographs for reference. At that meeting the pose, setting, and clothing will also be discussed and agreed upon. Within a month or so, an initial pencil sketch of the face, along with a small color sketch indicating the overall composition of the final portrait, will be provided to the client for approval. If the client lives within a reasonable distance of the artist, the artist will present these pieces in person. If not, these items will be mailed to the client.

Once an approval has been given and the second installment of the payment made, the artist will begin work on the final portrait. Once completed, the artist will present the portrait to the client in person, at a private unveiling (Note: this is not available for head-only commissions).

The final painting can be supplied framed with a gold lipped linen liner and a gold guilded frame, ready for wall installation, for an additional fee.

The artist is happy to consider posthumous portraits painted from photographs, although he prefers to work from his own photos, taken for reference.
